Japan, day 2: Koyasan

There really are no words for this place--nestled in the hills south of Osaka, this day trip is still one of my favorite places of all the places we've been to.  The pictures just don't do this place justice.  It's so serene, and the spiritual aura of this place is magical.  The train and cable car ride alone are interesting...the angle of the climb the cable car makes is pretty amazing:)  See HERE and HERE for more information about Mount Koya (Koyasan).  ALSO, please click on the pictures to see them better...there are too many to post them at a nice size for one post:)

"kaki"...or persimmons:)

The cable car for the final stretch up to Koyasan...it's hard to tell the angle from pictures, but yes, it's definitely an angled car.

Just inside the torii gates for hand washing

The lanterns along the path

One of many graves

At what appeared to be a mini shrine/burial for many children

Mausoleum of Ogo Shonin

Waiting for our trip back down on the cable car

My husband takes better pictures than I do...here's a link to a slideshow of his...HERE
